Balloon sinus ostial dilation, also known as balloon sinuplasty or sinus dilation, is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to treat chronic sinusitis and other sinus-related conditions. Here's how it relates to symptoms, treatment plans, and diagnosis testing.

1. Chronic sinusitis symptoms: Symptoms may include:
   • Facial pain or pressure
   • Nasal congestion or obstruction
   • Difficulty breathing through the nose
   • Post-nasal drip
   • Reduced sense of smell or taste
   • Facial tenderness or swelling
   • Headache
   • Fatigue or irritability

1. Pre-operative evaluation: Patients undergo a comprehensive evaluation by an otolaryngologist (ear, nose, and throat specialist) to confirm the diagnosis of chronic sinusitis and determine candidacy for balloon sinuplasty.
2. Balloon sinuplasty procedure: During the procedure, a small, flexible balloon catheter is inserted into the blocked sinus opening and inflated to gently dilate and remodel the sinus drainage pathway. This helps to restore normal sinus ventilation and drainage without the need for tissue removal or bone removal.
3. Post-operative care: After balloon sinuplasty, patients receive post-operative care instructions and may require nasal saline irrigation, nasal steroid sprays, or antibiotics to promote healing and prevent infection. Follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor recovery progress and assess treatment outcomes.

2. Nasal endoscopy: A flexible or rigid endoscope is used to visualize the inside of the nasal passages and sinuses, allowing for direct inspection of the sinus openings, mucosal lining, and any signs of inflammation or obstruction.
3. Imaging studies: Imaging tests such as CT scans or MRI scans may be performed to evaluate the extent and severity of sinus disease, identify anatomical variations or structural abnormalities, and guide treatment planning.
