Diagnostic cystoscopy is a medical procedure used to visually examine the inside of the bladder and urethra using a cystoscope, a thin, flexible tube with a camera and light attached to it. Here's how it relates to symptoms, treatment plans, and diagnosis testing.

1. Urinary symptoms: Persistent or recurrent urinary symptoms may warrant further evaluation with cystoscopy, including:

   • Blood in the urine (hematuria), which may be visible or detected microscopically
   • Painful urination (dysuria)
   • Frequent urination (urgency) or the need to urinate more often than usual (frequency)
   • Difficulty urinating or weak urine stream
   • Urinary incontinence or leakage

2. Abnormal imaging findings: Abnormalities detected on imaging tests such as ultrasound, CT scan, or MRI may require further evaluation with cystoscopy to assess the extent and nature of the findings.

1. Purpose: The primary purpose of diagnostic cystoscopy is to visually inspect the inside of the bladder and urethra to identify any abnormalities, such as tumors, stones, inflammation, or structural defects.
2. Procedure: During the procedure, a cystoscope is inserted through the urethra into the bladder, allowing the healthcare provider to visualize the lining of the bladder and urethra. If abnormalities are identified, further diagnostic or therapeutic interventions may be performed during the same procedure.
3. Anesthesia: In most cases, diagnostic cystoscopy can be performed with local anesthesia (numbing medication applied to the urethra) to minimize discomfort. In some cases, sedation or general anesthesia may be used, especially if additional procedures are planned.
4. Risks: While diagnostic cystoscopy is generally considered safe, potential risks and complications include:
   • Temporary discomfort or pain during the procedure
   • Urinary tract infection (rare)
   • Bleeding
   • Perforation of the bladder or urethra (extremely rare).

2. Urinalysis: A urine sample may be collected and analyzed for the presence of blood, infection, or other abnormalities.
